Text says:
“ORIGINALLY known to Athletic fame as an Amateur, and later on as a Professional Sprinter, it was a second thought as it were of A. WHARTON to turn to Football. His first appearance, at least in any important position, was as goal keeper for Preston North End, a role in which he acquitted himself with credit. Latterly he has been identified with the Rotherham Club in the same capacity, and with increasing experience has steadily forced his way to a prominent position among Northern goal keepers. Very quick on his feet he is also very quick with his hands, and with plenty of resource is generally equal to an emergency.”
